Spiritual Exercises 屬靈操練

1 Timothy 4:8
“Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever.”(The Message)

提摩太前書4章8節
「因為操練身體,益處還少;唯獨操練敬虔,凡事有益,享有今生和來世的應許。」

我們可以透過各種方法(different ways)去保持身體健康(health),其中一個很好的方法,就是多做運動(exercises)。無論是俗稱的「做gym」(gymnasium),或是戶外活動(outdoor activities),都是有益(useful)健康的。聖經也提到操練身體(physical training)的好處(提摩太前書4章8節);但聖經更指出比操練身體更有益的事,就是屬靈的操練(spiritual exercises)。聖經說這種操練是從今生到永遠都有益處的。簡單來說,屬靈操練就是勤讀聖經、常常祈禱、穩定的教會聚會,在神面前建立有紀律的生活(a disciplined life)。

1.health (noun) :a state in which a person is not suffering from any illness and is feeling well
2.way (noun) :if you refer to a way of doing something, you are referring to how you can do it, for example the action you can take or the method you can use to achieve it.
3.exercises (noun):a series of movements or actions which you do in order to get fit, remain healthy.
4.gymnasium (noun):a club, building, or large room, usually containing special equipment, where people go to do physical exercise and get fit.
5.outdoor (adjective):used, happening or situated outside rather than in a building.
6.useful (adjective):if something is useful, you can use it to do something or to help you in some way. 
7.disciplined (adjective):Someone who is disciplined behaves or works in a controlled way.
